George Harold Moodie was born on July 17, 1878 in Nepean Township in Carleton County, Ontario.

His parents were William Moodie (1846–1923) and Martha Frances Dawson (1857–1897).

Martha Moodie died in Ottawa on July 3, 1897.

On July 1, 1902, in North Gower Township, Ontario, William married Sarah Ann E. Maud Victoria McCordick. She was born on August 3, 1866 in Marlborough Township, Carleton County, in what was then the Province of Canada (later Ontario). Her parents were Joseph James Brownlee McCordick (1830–1889) and Sarah (Sally) Ann Morgan (1832–1914).

William Moodie died in Ottawa on November 6, 1923.

By the early 1900s, George Moodie was in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He worked as a butcher for other employers before setting up his own business. (The Winnipeg directories spelled his surname as “Moody” in some years.)

By 1906, George’s shop was at 679 Main Street in Winnipeg. In 1907, the Winnipeg Tribune published a promotional piece on George’s business.

To Vancouver

The Moodies arrived in Vancouver about 1909. They living for a short time at the rear of 2020 Beach Avenue.

From 1910 to 1911, they were in North Vancouver. George was the operator of Moodie and Company, which was at 238 Powell Street in downtown Vancouver.

From 1913 to 1914, they were at 1968 York Street in Kitsilano. (The street name was changed to York Avenue in 1958). George was the managing director of the Moodie Meat Company Limited.

To Ottawa

By the time of the 1921 Canada census, the Moodies were in Ottawa, Ontario. George was a salesman.

The family remained in the Ottawa area during the 1930s and 1940s.

Emily died in Ottawa on February 18, 1934. (Her death certificate and death notices described her as George’s widow.)

On May 28, 1934, in Ottawa, Ontario, he married Mary Valetta (Violette) Arbuckle. She was born in Carleton County, Ontario on March 24, 1906. Her parents were George Arbuckle and Isabella Dillon.

George Hilliard Moodie was born in North Vancouver, British Columbia on June 6, 1910.

In 1927 he won a prize in the Ottawa Boys’ Hobby Show.

George died at the R.C.A.F. station at Rivers Camp, Manitoba on January 23, 1957.
