Craig, James Robert (1875-1953)

James Robert Craig was a real estate broker who lived at 1890 Alberni Street in early 1911.

He was born on July 20, 1875, in Charlo, New Brunswick. His father was John Craig; his mother was Sarah Ann Galbraith.

On July 20, 1910, in Vancouver, James married Jane Ethel Carter. She was born in Ottawa, Ontario on June 1, 1879. Her father was Charles Henry Carter; her mother was Mary Gibson. (Jane’s brother, Charles Cleveland Carter, married Eva Burdis, a daughter of William David Burdis, who lived at 1869 Comox Street from 1906 to 1928.)

On January 21, 1911, the social column of the Vancouver Province said: “Mrs. J.R. Craig will receive for the first time since her marriage on Monday next, at her home, 1890 Alberni Street.” [Vancouver Province, January 21, 1911, page 5.]

James died in Vancouver on December 9, 1953. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Jane died in Vancouver on September 18, 1966.

James and Jane had the following children.

 

Margaret (“Peggy”) Winifred Craig

Margaret (“Peggy”) Winifred Craig was born in Vancouver about 1912. She worked as a stenographer for the federal government in 1953. It appears that she did not marry. She was living at 6429 Larch Street in 1953 and in 1966.

 

Robert James Craig

Robert James Craig was born in Vancouver on July 1, 1913. He worked as a mining engineer. He married Alice May Brennan. He died in Vancouver on December 12, 1967.

 

Noel Galbraith Craig

Noel Galbraith Craig was born in Vancouver about 1916. He worked as a clerk for the shipping company of Furness, Withy and Company in 1953. He was married to Muriel.

Ethel Mary Craig

Ethel Mary Craig was born in Vancouver about 1917. She became a teacher. It appears that she did not marry. She was living in Creston, British Columbia in 1944. In 1953 and 1966, she was living at 6429 Larch Street.
