Archibald McGougan was the president of Cedars Limited, which made lumber and shingles. He lived at 1860 Comox Street in 1920.

Archibald McGougan was born in Ontario on October 20, 1875. His parents were Malcolm McGougan and Euphemia Brodie.

Archibald McGougan first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1919. He lived at the following addresses in Vancouver.

1921 to 1927 256 East Sixth Street (North Vancouver)

Archibald never married.

He died in North Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 29, 1927. He was buried in North Vancouver Cemetery.

Archibald’s brothers, Edward and Angus, were the executors of Archibald’s estate. They sued Robert J. MacDonald to recover amounts that they claimed he owed to Archibald.

The court dismissed most of the claim against Mr. MacDonald.

Archibald had two brothers who lived in Vancouver (Angus and Edward), along with at least two other brothers (Malcolm and Alexander).

 

Angus McGougan

Angus McGougan was born on December 5, 1873, in Ekfrid Township, Middlesex County, Ontario.

On September 6, 1905, in Mosa Township, Middlesex County, Angus married Bessie Ann Campbell. She was born in Mosa Township on February 19, 1876. Her parents were Duncan Campbell and Sarah MacAlpine.

For a time, Angus was involved in railway construction work.

Angus first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1920. He lived at the following addresses in Vancouver.

For some of his later time in Vancouver, Angus worked as a building contractor.

Angus died in Vancouver on January 21, 1950.

Bessie died in Vancouver on October 11, 1966.

Angus and Bessie had the following children.

 

Jean McGougan

Jean McGougan was born in Port Arthur, Ontario, on August 13, 1909.

She became a school teacher.

On August 3, 1935, in Vancouver, she married Charles Drummond Gaddes, who was a realtor. He was born in Sintaluta, Northwest Territories (later Saskatchewan), on August 9, 1901. His parents were William Henry Gaddes and Annie Mary Liggett.

In 1934, Charles had been a provincial election commissioner in Kelowna.

Charles died in Kelowna on September 28, 1988.

Charles and Jean had a son, Charles William Gaddes (1936-1991).

 

Euphemia Brodie McGougan

Euphemia (“Effie” or “Moya”) Brodie McGougan was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on May 26, 1912.

On December 7, 1935, in Vancouver, she married Byron Edwards. He was born in Vancouver about 1908. His parents were John Richard Edwards and Isabel Louise Smith.

In 1953 she married John David Southam, who was a newspaper executive.

John was born in Ottawa, Ontario, on April 12, 1909. His parents were Wilson Mills Southam and Henrietta Alberta Cargill. He died in Calgary, Alberta in November 1954.

She married Mr. J. Christie.

She died in Jamaica in 1967.

Archie was born on September 14, 1915. He married Diana Dehart.

 

Mary Elizabeth McGougan

Mary Elizabeth McGougan was born in Vancouver on December 29, 1919.

In 1944 in Vancouver she married James Bruce Kirkpatrick. He was born in Kingston, Ontario, on February 26, 1917.

Mary died in Vancouver on May 2, 1988.

James died in Vancouver on June 22, 1990.

 

Edward John McGougan

Edward John McGougan was born in Ekford Township, Ontario, on April 2, 1877. He became a clergyman, and served in Montreal, later moving to Alberta, where he lived in Wetaskiwin and Edmonton.

He married Donalda Jessie Mcpherson. She was born in Quebec on July 21, 1880. Her father was Joseph McPherson.

Edward and Donalda moved to Vancouver about 1921, and Edward became the pastor of Chalmers United Church.

Edward died in Vancouver on December 13, 1931.

Donalda died in Vancouver on December 21, 1963. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Malcolm McGougan was born in Ekfrid, Middlesex, Ontario, on July 14, 1880.

On December 25, 1906, in Brooke, Ontario, he married Minnie R. McLean. She was born in Brooke about 1882. Her parents were Neil McLean and Mary McAlpine.

In 1919, Malcolm and Minnie moved to Okotoks, Alberta, where he became the manager of the Merchants Bank. He was the mayor of Okotoks in 1928 and 1929.

He later lived in Calgary.

 

Alexander Graham McGougan

Alexander Graham McGougan was born on December 4, 1881. He studied at McGill University and Yale University. On June 25, 1912, at Hinton, West Virginia, he married Lillian M. Smith. Alexander later became a physics professor at the University of Saskatchewan. He died in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on September 28, 1924. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon. Alexander and Lillian did not have any children.
