1842 Pendrell Street

Henderson’s Greater Vancouver Directory, 1911, Part 1, page 579.

1842 Pendrell Street appeared in the Vancouver directories from 1910 to 1913. The occupant of the house was Charles Conley. However, the directory also listed Charles Conley at 1841 Morton Avenue.

The general legal descriptions for both 1841 Morton Avenue and 1842 Pendrell Street would have been District Lot: 185; Block 71; west half of Lot 4. (The Pendrell Street address could have been on the north portion of the lot; the Morton Avenue address could have been on the south portion.)

Alternative Addresses for the Same Property?

1842 Pendrell Street and 1841 Morton Avenue seem to have been alternative addresses for the same house.

A similar situation arose in the case of 1830 Morton Avenue, which sometimes appeared as 1830 Pendrell Street.

By 1914, the directory listed Charles Conley only at 1841 Morton Avenue. 1842 Pendrell Street was “vacant.”

Building Permit

Another issue in relation to 1842 Pendrell Street is a building permit that mentions this address.

There is one apparent reference to this property in Heritage Vancouver Society’s database of historic building permits: http://permits.heritagevancouver.org/index.php?cID=1 [searched August 2, 2019]. The owner of the property was Archibald Rowan.

The Vancouver directories listed Archibald Rowan at 1840 Pendrell Street from 1912 to 1915 and from 1917 to 1922.

Although the street address in the permit is 1842 Pendrell Street, this seems to have been either a temporary address or an error in the permit. The house in the permit later normally had an address of 1840 Pendrell Street.
