Elkin, Frank Lusty (1875-1949)

Frank Lusty Elkin was a real estate broker. He lived at 778 Gilford Street in 1910 and at 821 Denman Street in 1911.

Frank was born in Birmingham, England on October 8, 1875. His parents were John and Clara Elkin.

He arrived in Canada about 1909. For a short time he lived in Port Arthur (which later merged with Fort William to become Thunder Bay), Ontario. It appears that he married Annie Paton sometime around 1908. She was born on July 31, 1873, in Kennington, London, England. Her father was Robert James Paton. Her mother was Annie Elkin.

Frank first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1910. He was living at 778 Gilford Street, and was working with the Eastern Land Company. Roy Frederick Likely (1883-1930), from New Brunswick, was the manager of the Eastern Land Company. Roy was also living at 778 Gilford Street in 1910.

In 1911, Frank was living at 821 Denman Street. He did not appear in the Vancouver directories after that.

By 1928, Frank was living in Mission City, British Columbia. [The directory called him “Frank Elkins.”]

Frank was the department manager of DesBrisays’ Departmental Store at the southwest corner of First Avenue and Horne Street.

Annie died in Mission City on April 5, 1936. She was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia.

In 1940, Frank was working in the hardware business in Mission.

In 1941 and 1942, the Mission City directory listed Frank as retired. By 1943, he was the proprietor of the Mission Real Estate Company. Through the 1940s, Frank and George Victor Ogle (1877-1960) continued to work in the real estate business.

Frank died in Mission City on March 30, 1949. He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Clarice (Clara Annie) Elkin

Clarice (Clara Annie) Elkin was born in Port Arthur, Ontario, on May 8, 1910.

She married Herbert Atkinson. He was born in England on June 3, 1913. His father was Albert Atkinson. His mother was Sarah Johnson.

Clara died in Mission City, British Columbia, on May 5, 1955. She was buried in the Hatzic Cemetery in Mission.

Herbert died in Victoria, British Columbia, on January 11, 1986.

Ruby Maude Elkin

Ruby Maude Elkin was born in Port Arthur, Ontario, on August 8, 1911.

In 1930, Ruby was an operator with the Mission Telephone Company.

On June 6, 1935, in Mission City, Ruby married Reuben Elliott. He was an ambulance driver, and later became a nurse’s aide in the provincial mental hospital. He was born in England on October 7, 1908. His father was Harry Elliott. His mother was Mary Morgan.

Reuben died in Mission City on December 31, 1962. He was buried in the Hatzic Cemetery in Mission City.

Ruby died in Vancouver on April 23, 1971. She was buried in the Hatzic Cemetery in Mission City.
