Several related members of the Hobson family lived in the West of Denman area.

George William Hobson was at 2001 Nelson Street from 1901 to 1909. He was a Vancouver city alderman.

Christopher George Hobson was an insurance agent and Vancouver city alderman. He was at 2001 Nelson Street from 1902 to 1906 and at 1821 Haro Street from 1906 to 1909.

George Henry Lawrence Hobson was at 1821 Haro Street from 1904 to 1905.

It appears that Julia died in 1885. (Some sources say that she died in Halifax, Yorkshire; others give Wandsworth, Surrey as her place of death.) She was buried in Putney, Surrey on February 2, 1885.

George William Hobson

George William Hobson was born in Bootle, Cumberland, England on June 8, 1836. His parents were Christopher Hobson and Julia Mary Greenup.

He immigrated to Canada in 1884. He was an insurance agent.

He did not marry.

In 1920, he donated one of several sanctuary lamps to St. James’s Church.

Richard Hobson

Another son of Christopher Hobson and Julia Mary Greenup was Richard Hobson. He was born at Cross House, Cumberland on December 20, 1833.

On September 8, 1864, in Wisham, Somerset, he married Agnes Susan (“Annie”) Ware.

Caroline Susan Hobson

Caroline Susan Hobson was born in Penrith, Cumberland on July 15, 1865. Her parents were Richard Hobson and Agnes (“Annie”) Susan Ware.

On February 14, 1906, in Vancouver, she married Christopher George Hobson, who was an insurance agent. He was born in Abernyte, Perthshire, Scotland. His parents were Christopher Hobson and Mary Scott Brown. He immigrated to Canada in 1862.

Christopher was a Vancouver alderman in 1889.

Christopher died on October 13, 1923, on Lulu Island, south of Vancouver. He and Annie went for a drive with John McPherson Lemoyne (1848-1933). While they were driving on Number Two Road, Christopher suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died almost instantly.

Caroline died in Vancouver on August 18, 1951. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Mary Brown Hobson

Mary Brown Hobson was a sister of Christopher George Hobson. She was born in Scotland on May 22, 1851. Her parents were Christopher Hobson and Mary Scott Brown. She immigrated to Canada in 1862.

She did not marry.

In the late 1920s, she was living at 2002 Robson Street.

She died in Vancouver on May 26, 1929. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

George Henry Lawrence Hobson

George Henry Lawrence Hobson was an insurance agent, who was a brother of Caroline Susan Hobson. He was born in Penrith, England on January 21, 1871. His parents were Richard Hobson and Agnes Susan Hobson.

On October 25, 1904, in St. George’s Church (probably in Langley, British Columbia); George married Laura Mavis. She was born in Northumberland, England on December 23, 1879. Her parents were Alex. And Mary Mavis.

George died in Vancouver on September 7, 1952. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Laura died in Vancouver on March 3, 1977.
