Watts, Inverness William (1875-1922)

Inverness William Watts was an insurance inspector and superintendent for the Royal Insurance Company. In 1910 and 1911, he lived at 1993 Beach Avenue. From 1912 to 1914, he was at 2058 Beach Avenue.

He was born in London, England, on February 2, 1875. His father was usually known as John Watts, although one source calls him Michael; his mother was named Lucy.

On June 2, 1898, in Widford, Hertford, England [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widford,_Hertfordshire], Inverness married Mabel Edith Horsey. She was born in August 1872. Her father was a dentist named George Mather Horsey (1845-1925); her mother was Sarah Jane Ogden.

Inverness Watts was involved in “The Motor Car Company (1905) Ltd.” Among other things, the company was the publisher of The Motor Car Manual, a well-known book on automobiles in the early 1900s. Robert Moffat Ford was the author of the book, which went through at least three editions. The company was not successful, however, and by 1907 it was being wound up. Inverness was on the list of people to be examined, along with Mr. Ford, Henry C. Nelson, and James Cecil Mitchell. Ford was later involved in individual bankruptcy proceedings in 1922. He also carried on a protest in 1925 against British wireless listening-in fees, which he described in his book called The Wireless Licence Ramp.

Inverness Watts and his family arrived in Vancouver about 1909, and lived for a short time in the Merrill Mansions, at 1070 Haro Street.
