Gamage, Victor Bernard (1883-possibly 1967)

Victor Bernard Gamage (sometimes called Victor Bernard Spurgeon de Gamage) was a restaurant operator and a clerk in David Spencer Ltd.’s department store.

Victor lived at 1997 Georgia Street in 1909 and at 675 Denman Street in 1920.

He was born in Leamington, Warwickshire, in September quarter, 1883. His father was Edwin Thomas Gamage (1842-1920). His mother was Dorothy Jennette [Dora] Vanstone (1854-1907).

It appears that he was living in the United States from about 1900 to 1908.

On August 3, 1903, in New York City, he married Alice Mildred Farrell. She was born about 1884 in New York City. Her father was Henry Farrell. Her mother was Margaret Couley.

On December 28, 1906, in Hennepin County, Minnesota, he married Mary Cecilia [Dade] Cudmore. She was born on October 3, 1883 in Minnesota.

About 1909, Victor and Mary arrived in Vancouver, where Victor had a series of restaurant and catering business.

In 1914, Victor was the manager of the refreshment pavilion in Stanley Park.

In 1916, he went to the United States. He gave his occupation as “caterer”, and said that he was living at 1740 Alberni Street in Vancouver.

In 1919, he was a salesman with McConnan-Smith Ltd. in Vancouver.

In 1925, Mrs. M. De Gamage was living at 675 Denman Street.

In 1935, Victor and Mary were retired and living at 1710 Nelson Street.

In 1950, Victor was a salesman. He and Mary were at 1710 Nelson Street.

Mary died in Vancouver on September 3, 1967. She was still living at 1710 Nelson Street. It appears that Victor was still living at that time.

According to one source, Victor died on December 14, 1967, in Seattle, Washington.

Victor and Mary had the following children.
