Walter Ernest Hodges was a chartered accountant. He lived at 1034 Gilford Street in 1915 and 1916.

 

Early Life in England

Walter Ernest Hodges was born on July 10, 1872, in Doulting, Shepton Mallet, Somerset. His parents were John Hodges (1819-1878) and Ann Davis (1833-1908).

In 1881 he was living with his mother in Doulting.

On November 9, 1897, he became an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.

 

Move to Canada

He arrived in Canada in 1897. He went briefly to the Yukon, and then moved to the Kootenay region of British Columbia.

By 1901 he was working as an accountant in Greenwood, British Columbia.

In July 10, 1906, in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Walter married Margaret Isabel Keay. She was born in Goldenville, Nova Scotia, on December 25, 1876. Her parents were William George Keay and Catherine Augusta Sinclair (1848-1939).

In 1914 and 1915 he was the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.

In 1920, the federal secretary of state appointed Walter as one of the trustees under the Bankruptcy Act.

Walter carried on his accounting business in Vancouver through the 1920s.

Margaret died in Vancouver on October 24, 1931. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

In March 1932, Walter travelled from Seattle, Washington, to San Francisco, California.

In April 1932 he arrived in London, England.
