Ralph Johnstone Wilson was a foreman at the Vancouver World newspaper. He lived at 1120 Denman Street in 1917.

The Vancouver directory also had a listing for E.J. Wilson, a printer who lived at 1120 Denman Street in 1917. It appears that these are duplicate listings for the same person (that is, “E.J. Wilson” should probably be “R.J. Wilson”).

Ralph Johnstone Wilson

Ralph Johnstone Wilson was born on March 13, 1873, in Blanshard, Perth County, Ontario. His parents were John Wilson and Elizabeth Kennedy.

In 1881, Ralph was living with his parents in Blanshard.

By 1910, Ralph was in Vancouver, working as a foreman at the Vancouver World newspaper.

On November 21, 1910, in Vancouver, Ralph married Ella Josephine Moore, who was the former wife of William Cady Moore. The marriage certificate stated that she was a widow, but it appears that she was actually divorced.

Ella was born in Nova Scotia on March 11, about 1871. Ella’s father was John Kane. (Some sources say that Ella’s surname was Conners or Kinnear.) Ella’s mother was Mary Moray.

Ella’s Earlier Marriage to William Cady Moore

Ella first marriage was to William Cady Moore, a Canadian Pacific Railway telegraph operator who lived at 2006 Beach Avenue from 1903 to 1905.

This marriage had ended by 1910.

William went to live in the United States. On March 30, 1913, he married Edna Bresee who was from Wonewoc, Wisconsin.

William died in Sheboygan on June 21, 1953.

(Further information appears on the page for William Cady Moore.)

Harold Cady Moore

William and Ella Moore had a son, Harold Cady Moore. He was born in Vancouver on July 1, 1903.

On October 1, 1938, in Vancouver, Howard married Dorothy Alene Gow.

Vancouver Province, October 3, 1938, page 15, column 1.

Dorothy was born in Vancouver on April 15, 1907. Her parents were Walter Melvin Gow (1878-1961) and Gertrude Amelia Coughtrey (1881-1972).

In 1949, Harold and Dorothy were living at 655 West King Edward Avenue. Harold was a salesman for W.M. Gow (probably his father-in-law’s business).

Harold died in Vancouver on August 16, 1964.

Dorothy died in Vancouver on October 24, 1990.

Ralph and Ella in Vancouver

After their marriage, Ralph J Wilson and Ella lived in Vancouver.

In 1912 and 1913, Ralph was the president of the Vancouver Press Club.

Vancouver Daily World, June 14, 1912, page 4, column 3.

Ralph continued to work as a printer at the Vancouver Daily World until the 1920s

In the mid-1920s, he went to live in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He died in Colorado Springs on August 7, 1927.

By 1929, Ella was working as a telephone operator for the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Ella continued to live in Vancouver through the 1940s.

She died in Vancouver on March 3, 1949. She was buried in Ocean View Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia. Her son, Harold Cady Moore, was the informant on her death certificate.
