A Note on Eudavilla Jean Miller

The 1911 Canada census indicated that Sanford was married to Eudavilla, and they were both witnesses at the wedding of Sanford’s sister, Eva.

It appears that she was Eudavilla Jean Miller, who was born at or near Halifax, Nova Scotia on October 29, 1883.

On August 16, 1904, in Truro, Nova Scotia, she married Clarence Wright.

In the 1911 Canada census, she was living with Sanford Sobey, along with a son, who was born about 1900. (The census is illegible, but it appears that this was Clyde Avon Wright. Further information appears below.) Her brothers, George and Charles, were also living in Sanford’s household.

On December 4, 1918, Eudavilla married Harry Wright. Her surname at the time of the marriage was McClelland, and the marriage documents said that she was divorced.

Harry Wright was born in Indiana on March 6, 1885. His parents were William F. Wright and Althista Spencer (although some sources say “Fannie”; others give her surname as “Cole”).

Harry and Eudavilla went through another marriage ceremony on January 2, 1920. The reasons for the second ceremony are not clear.

In 1920 Eudavilla and Harry sailed from San Francisco to Victoria, British Columbia. According to the passenger list, Harry was a rancher. Their destination was Alta Vista, British Columbia, which is near Whistler.
