My great-grandmother’s name was Margaret Holtz but she may have been his second wife. Is there any chance we are connected?; Re: Keller from Germany / Köln (Cologne) region; Surnames: Keller, Holtz: Hi Brigitte, Thanks for your response. Your English is very good. I am sorry but I don’t know John Keller’s second name. I don’t know much about him except that he was born in1855 in Germany. He was a furrier in Canada but I think he might have lived in the U.S. first as I found a John Keller living in Chicago in the 1880 census who was the correct age and was a furrier. In that census record John Keller said he was from Bavaria. In the Canadian census of 1891 John said he was from Germany. He had a number of children. My grandfather was his oldest boy. His name was Ernest Henry Keller. The other children’s names were Elsie, Ernestine Ottule Keller, Julius Otto Keller, Rudolph Max Keller, Oscar Herman Keller, Fredrick Alfred Keller. I will continue to try and find some documents that will give me John’s full name. I think he must have married Margaret Holtz either in the U.S. or in Canada although I have not been able to find a marriage certificate yet. Does any of this sound like we are related? I look forward to hearing from you again. Cheers, Melanie.”
