William McBride was born in New Westminster, British Columbia, on February 1, 1869. One of his brothers was Richard McBride (1870-1917), the premier of British Columbia from 1903 to 1915.

William’s parents were Arthur Hill McBride (1835-1909) and Mary Ann Darcy (1845-1931). For many years, Arthur Hill McBride was the warden of the British Columbia Penitentiary at New Westminster. He died in New Westminster on May 4, 1909. He was buried in Fraser Cemetery in New Westminster.

In 1901, William and Emily were living in the Port Guichon area of Delta, British Columbia. William operated a general store in Port Guichon.

In 1903, William also ran the Port Guichon Hotel.

In February 1906, William became ill. His father took him to Victoria for treatment.

The treatment was unsuccessful, and William died in Victoria on February 10, 1906. He was buried in Fraser Cemetery in New Westminster.

Leonard Hartnell McBride

Leonard Hartnell McBride was born in Ladner, British Columbia, on May 9, 1895. In 1901, 1911, and 1921, he was living with his mother.

He worked as an automotive electrician.

On May 9, 1923, in Vancouver, he married Elsie Eva Crockett, who was a nurse. She was born in Tignish (or Alberton), Prince Edward Island, on June 5, 1901. Her parents were Waldron John Crockett and Katherine Allise (or Ella) Larkin.

This marriage ended in divorce in Vancouver on November 22, 1946. Elsie later married John Baird Willcock (1884-1961). Elsie died in Vancouver on January 22, 1975.

On December 3, 1946, Leonard married Helen Elizabeth Potvin in Point Roberts, Washington. She was born Helen Elizabeth Molter on August 12, 1915, in Transcona, Manitoba. She had been married to Mr. Potvin, but this marriage had ended in divorce.

In 1947, Leonard and Helen travelled to California, intending to live there permanently. Their son, Douglas Leonard McBride (born December 9, 1946), was travelling with them.

Leonard and Helen later lived in Fruitvale, British Columbia, where Leonard worked as a merchant.

Leonard died in Fruitvale on September 6, 1955. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Trail, British Columbia.

 

Arthur Darcy McBride

Arthur Darcy McBride as born in Ladner, British Columbia on April 18, 1896. Until at least 1921, he lived with his mother in British Columbia.

He worked as a fish packer.

On November 27, 1920, in Seattle, Washington, Arthur married Jessie Russell Ross. She was born on September 8, 1895, in Wellington, near Nanaimo, British Columbia. Her parents were Robert Ross and Mary Black.

It appears that Arthur and Jessie had moved to Seattle by the mid-1930s, although some immigration documents are not currently available.

In 1938, Arthur travelled to Seattle. His manifest card said that he had been only temporarily in the United States before. However, there is a 1936 manifest card for Jessie, showing that she and her two sons, Darcy and William, were travelling to Seattle to join Arthur.

Eileen Agnes McBride

Eileen Agnes McBride was born in Ladner, British Columbia, on May 16, 1897. From 1901 to 1921 she was living with her mother in British Columbia.

In 1923, Eileen became the clearance clerk for a wheat pool in Vancouver.

On August 29, 1941, in Vancouver, she married Joseph Bennett, who was an elevator superintendent. He was born in Kingston, Ontario, on March 7, 1887. His parents were Edward Bennett and Mary Gordon.

Joseph became a manager of the Alberta Wheat Pool in Vancouver. He died in Vancouver on February 7, 1968. He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Eileen died in Vancouver on November 17, 1989.

 

Kathleen Mary McBride

Kathleen Mary McBride was born in Ladner, British Columbia, on April 22 (or 23), 1899.

In 1901 and 1911, she was living with her mother.

On August 18, 1921, in Vancouver, she married Alexander (“Sandy”) Lewis Wright, who was an insurance broker. He was born in Salisbury, New Brunswick, on December 30, 1891. His parents were Lewis Alexander Wright and Ella Eliza Holstead.
