David MacKay was a conductor for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He lived at 1888 Georgia Street in 1905.

David MacKay was born in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, on April 30, 1861. His parents were Neil MacKay and Margaret Barclay. (David’s full name sometimes appears as “David Barclay MacKay.”)

He became a railway conductor. By the late 1880s he was living in Kamloops, British Columbia.

On October 25, 1887, in Mill Brook, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, he married Jessie Isobel McKay. She was born in Mill Brook on July 30, 1867. Her parents were James McKay and Mary Cameron.

In the 1891 Canada census David and Jessie were living at Hardwood Hill in Pictou, Nova Scotia.

By the mid-1890s they were in the Kootenay region of British Columbia.

In 1901 they were in Nelson, British Columbia. In 1903, David was a candidate for alderman in the Nelson city council.

In 1904, he became the “chief conductor” for the Nelson division of the Order of Railway Conductors.

David died in Vancouver on April 9, 1925. He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia. (According to his death certificate, he had been working as a contractor.)

Jessie died in Vancouver on December 15, 1939. She was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby,

David and Jessie had the following children.

 

Eva Mae MacKay

Eva Mae MacKay was born in Vancouver on December 12, 1888.

On December 4, 1907, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she married Charles Joseph Clemens. It appears that he died in Toronto, Ontario, on January 7, 1923.

On June 30, 1923, in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Eva married William Smith, who was a logger. He was born in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, about 1898. His parents were William Smith and Mary Ann Mahoy. This marriage ended in divorce in Nanaimo on March 27, 1928.

 

Irma Irene MacKay

Irma Irene Mackay was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia, on December 25, 1889.

On August 28, 1912, in Vancouver, she married James Stewart-Moore. He was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, on August 6, 1884. His parents were Henry and Emily Stewart-Moore.

James worked as a policeman for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He died in Vancouver on January 11, 1938.

On January 28, 1931, in Whatcom County, Washington, Irma married Devillo Demic Wood. He was born on February 18, 1886, in Rives Junction, Michigan.

In 1940, Devillo and Irma were in Oak Creek Town, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Devillo died in New Westminster, British Columbia on February 12, 1968.

Irma died in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on March 9, 1978.

 

James Ivan Stanley MacKay

James Ivan Stanley Mackay was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia, on May 28, 1891.

He worked as a railway officer.

He married Jennie Haaland. This marriage ended in divorce.

On June 29, 1929, in Vancouver, he married Winifred Beatrice Inman (née Miller). She was born in Killarney, Manitoba, on October 22, 1890. Her parents were Isaac Miller and Margaret Henderson.

He became a general manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s Western Division.

He died in Vancouver on June 7, 1961. He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Winifred died in West Vancouver, British Columbia, on September 13, 1977.

 

Youla Margaret Lenora MacKay

Youla Margaret Lenora MacKay was born in Glengarry, Pictou, Nova Scotia, on May 20, 1892.

On July 10, 1909, in Matsqui, British Columbia, she married James de Pas Murray, who was a clerk. He was born in Warm Springs, California, on February 10, 1888 His parents were James Irving Murray and Virginia M. de Pas.

This marriage ended in divorce in New Westminster, British Columbia, on March 7, 1947.

James died in Langley, British Columbia, on December 10, 1957. He was buried in Murrayville Cemetery.

Youla later married William Pottinger. He was born on Burra Island, Shetland Islands, on October 23, 1903. He died in Parksville, British Columbia, on September 5, 1986.

Youla died on November 8, 1988. She was buried in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar, British Columbia.

 

Florence Katherine MacKay

Florence Katherine MacKay was born in Nakusp, British Columbia, on June 21, 1896.

On May 10, 1915, in Nanaimo, British Columbia, she married Reginald Guy Haley, who was a government clerk. He was born in Carman, Manitoba, about 1893. His parents were Walter M. Haley and Cora Bell Woodruff. This marriage ended in divorce in Vancouver on February 16, 1936.

On April 22, 1939, in Vancouver, she married George Powell, who was a gardener. He was born in Weston-Super-Mare, England, about 1896. His parents were William Powell and Polly Mutlo.
