However, sometime after the start of the First World War, the business was in trouble. Fanny sued Arthur for an accounting of about $50,000 that she claimed he had invested for her.

The outcome of this lawsuit is not available

In November 1918, the company made an assignment for the benefit of its creditors. Joseph Walter McFarland was the assignee. However, the first meeting of creditors replaced Mr. McFarland with E. St. John Howley.

In December 1918, Arthur’s wife, Fanny, petitioned the court for an order to wind up the company. She was one of the company’s creditors, and she said that a court-supervised winding-up process would be better for the creditors than the assignee process. In January 1919, the court agreed to order the winding-up.

In 1921, Albert sued to set aside Fanny’s assignment of a joint claim of $30,000, which Fanny and Arthur had assigned to Alfred Shaw. (At that time, Arthur was living in Langley Prairie, British Columbia.) The outcome of this lawsuit is not available.
