John Bernard Teevens was a hotel proprietor. He lived at 1801 Nelson Street in 1913 and 1914.

John Bernard Teevens was born in Pembroke, Ontario on October 15, 1879. His parents were Bernard Teevens (1825–1905) and Jane Adeline Manion (1841–1918).

John’s father, Bernard Teevens, was a hotel operator in Pembroke for many years. John also entered the family hotel business.

On September 28, 1903, Douglas, Renfrew County, Ontario, John married Mary Louise Fitzmaurice. She was born in Renfrew County, Ontario on July 29, 1885. Her parents were James Fitzmaurice (1842–1926) and Bridget Culhane (1845–1920).

In 1911, the Teevens family was in Pembroke. John was a hotel operator.

 

Time in Vancouver

John first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1912. He was the manager of the Alhambra Hotel, and he was living at 203 Carrall Street.

In 1913 he was the managing director of the Stratford Hotel, which was a new building at the northwest corner of Keefer Street and Gore Avenue.

In the 1914 Vancouver directory, John was at 1801 Nelson Street.

In 1916, he was on West Second Avenue, near Sasamat Street in Point Grey.

He did not appear in the Vancouver directories after 1916.

 

Return to Ontario

The Teevens family went back to Pembroke, where John was a successful hotel operator until the late 1940s.

In 1948, John sold the Hotel Pembroke.

Mary died in Pembroke on May 22, 1950.

John and Mary had the following children.

 

Mary Helen Margurette Teevens (Helen Mary Teevens)

Helen Mary Teevens was born in Pembroke, Ontario on July 20, 1904.

On November 25, 1925, in Pembroke, she married Henry Samuel Marion, who was a merchant. He was born on July 3, 1897, in Desjoachins, Quebec. His parents were Thomas B. Marion (1863-1933) and Mary Bonfield.

Henry served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. He signed his attestation papers in Pembroke on March 16, 1916. He was discharged on July 4, 1919, during the demobilization at the end of the war.

Henry died on June 8, 1974.

John Joseph Teevens

John Joseph Teevens was born in Renfrew County in February 1906.

He died in Pembroke, Ontario on April 27, 1918.

 

James Bernard Benedict Teevens

James Bernard Benedict Teevens was born in Pembroke, Ontario on December 28, 1907. He was the manager of the Hotel Pembroke.

In September 1944, he married Margaret Mulcahy.

He was killed in an automobile accident near Pembroke on August 25, 1947.

Margaret Eleanor Teevens was born in British Columbia (probably in Vancouver) in 1913 (possibly December 10).

She married Joseph Dominic Sullivan. He was born in McNab, Ontario on September 22, 1908. His parents were Maurice Sullivan and Elizabeth Farrell.

Joseph died in Arnprior, Ontario on March 23, 1988.
