Bell, Mrs. George (1883-1944)

Mrs. George Bell lived at 2056 Beach Avenue in 1919.

It appears that she was Helen Eckron (Ecron) Davidson. She was often called “Nellie.” She was born on March 14, 1883, in Norwood, Ontario. Her father was Andrew Davidson; her mother was Berintha Beech.

Nellie was married to George Robert Bell. He was born on January 4, 1880, in Campbellford, Ontario. His father was William John Bell; his mother was Mary Curle.

It appears that George and Nellie lived in Govan, Saskatchewan about 1910.

By the time of the 1911 Canada census, the family was living in South Vancouver. George was a grocer.

According to the Vancouver directories, George had a series of occupations: he was a barber in 1916, and an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Company in 1917 and 1918 (although he was “on active service” in 1918).

In April 1917, George enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War.

After the war, George returned to Vancouver, where he became a salesman for Woodward’s Department Store. Nellie was a teacher at the Sprott-Shaw business school. Throughout the 1920s to the 1940s, George had a series of jobs including retail sales, a pool hall, and a local grocery store.

Nellie died in Vancouver on February 17, 1944.

George died in Burnaby, British Columbia, on November 17, 1958. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.

George and Nellie had the following children

John Andrew Bell

John Andrew Bell was born in Vancouver on February 16, 1912, in Vancouver.

He became an accountant.

On July 27, 1935, in Burnaby, British Columbia, he married Janet Mcmillan. She was born in Burnaby on November 14, 1914. Her father was Bernard MacMillan; her mother was Martha Reynolds.

By the early 1908s, he was living on Bowen Island, near West Vancouver, British Columbia. He died in North Vancouver, British Columbia on April 5, 1983.

Janet died in North Vancouver, British Columbia on September 24, 1983.

Helen Bell

Helen Bell was born in 1910, possibly in Govan, Saskatchewan. On July 22, 1931, in Vancouver, she married Beverly Wilfrid Corbett. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1908. His father was Samuel Corbett; his mother was Gertrude Ethel Sangster (who lived at 1877 Comox Street in 1919 and 1920). This marriage was dissolved in Vancouver on November 13, 1936. [Further information on the Corbett family appears on the page for Gertrude Ethel Corbett.]

By 1944, Helen was married to Mr. T.H. Rendell. She was living with her parents, George and Helen, at 1302 Southwest Marine Drive.

By 1958, Helen was married to Mr. Chamberlin, and was living in the United States. She may have died in San Diego, California, on May 16, 1964.
