George Grant Mackay originally built the house, sometime shortly before 1889. George Grant Mackay was born on September 26, 1827, in Inverness, Scotland. After he arrived in Vancouver about 1888, he was the president of the Oriental Traders Company on Pender Street. Besides his other interests in land development, Mr. Mackay also built the first Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver. He died in 1893.
