Jackson, Cyril Hugh (1868-after 1935)

Cyril Hugh Jackson was a teacher. He lived at 1829 Robson Street in 1907.

He was born on July 24, 1868, at 67 Kensington Gardens Square in Hyde Park, London, England.

His father was Arthur John Jackson (1839-1904), who was a lawyer; Cyril’s mother was Caroline Edith Steedman (born 1842).

Cyril attended St. Nicholas College (later called Lancing College) from 1878 to 1883.

He later went to New College at Oxford University, where he matriculated in 1886.

In 1891 he was living with his brother, Edward Mackenzie Jackson, who was a lawyer. In 1891, Cyril also qualified as a lawyer, although he may not have practiced. (Cyril’s brother, Edward, was a talented chess player, as well as being a lawyer.)

In 1901, Cyril was a teacher at Trinity College in Port Hope, Ontario.

He first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1906, living at 1600 Barclay Street.

On August 1, 1906, in Vancouver, Cyril married Frances Elizabeth Whitty. She was born in Liverpool, England on August 23, 1872. Her father was John Whitty (about 1838-1913); her mother was Annie Corbin.

Cyril continued to be a teacher, including a period at St. Marina School in Vancouver.

Cyril was listed in the Vancouver directories until 1935, and so far there is no further available information for him.

Frances died in Vancouver on October 11, 1960. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

It appears that Cyril and Frances did not have any children.
