Greaves, Michael Mahon (1887-after 1939)

Michael Mahon Greaves was a lawyer who lived at 1831 Pendrell Street in 1919.

Michael Mahon Greaves was born in 1887 in Barbados, British West Indies. His father was Sir William Herbert Greaves (1857-1936), a lawyer who served as solicitor-general, attorney general and chief judge in Barbados. Michael’s mother was Millicent Josephine Mahon (1861-1915).

Michael went to the Middle Temple in London, England, to study law. He finished his law examinations in 1911.

Michael first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1913. He was an assistant lawyer with the Canadian Pacific Railway. (The directories sometimes used the term “barrister” and sometimes “solicitor.”)

In 1914, Michael became a British Columbia notary public.

Michael married Elizabeth Pridham on June 28, 1918, at the Vancouver court house. Elizabeth was born on March 17, 1884, in Sunderland, England. Her father was William John Forster. Her mother was Ellen Eilley.

Elizabeth had been married before, to George Venning Pridham, who was a schoolmaster. He was born about 1872 in Torquay, Devon, England. George and Elizabeth were divorced sometime before 1918. George and Elizabeth had a son, John Drake Forster Pridham, who was born in 1899 in Newton Abbot, Devon. John married Florence M. Brown in 1924 in Brentford, Middlesex. John’s death was registered in 1973 in Hounslow, Middlesex.

After Michael and Elizabeth were married in 1918, they lived in Vancouver until the mid-1930s.

Elizabeth died in Vancouver on June 12, 1936. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

After Elizabeth died, Michael continued his work as a lawyer for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He lived at 1706 West 15th Avenue until 1940. He did not appear in the Vancouver directories after 1940.

No further information is available for Michael.
