Buck, George Harold (1881- )

George Harold Buck operated a refreshment parlour and confectionery, and ran a photographic gallery at the entrance to Stanley Park. He lived at 1997 Georgia Street in 1917 and 1918.

He was born on May 4, 1881, in Brantford, Ontario. His father was Judson Wilfred Buck (1835-1906), who was a manufacturer with the William Buck Stove Company; his mother was Sarah Dimmock (1847-1932).

In September 1918, George had to appear in Police Court. The military police had arrested him and chaged him with not having proper proof of being over age for “Class One” Magistrate Shaw fined him $10, and the military took George into custody. Class one men included bachelors and widowers without children, between the ages of 20 and 34.

On December 22, 1919, in Vancouver, George married Eunice Marie Fleury. She was born in Michigan about 1897. Her parents were Ovila Fleury, who was a miller, and Catherine Ames.
