Joseph S. Bernet was a financial agent, importer and broker of stocks and real estate. He lived at 1801 Nelson Street in 1913.

He was born about 1882. He arrived in Vancouver about 1910 and established the firm of Bernet and Helm, which had its offices at 882 Granville Street. Bernet and Helm were financial agents, brokers and importers.

On February 17, 1913, the Vancouver Sun reported Joseph’s engagement to Hattie Samuel Rosenbaum. Hattie was born in New York about 1877. The wedding was to take place sometime in April 1913.

By 1918, “James S. Bernet” and Joseph Gluck had a wholesale jeweller business at 173 West Cordova Street. J.S. Bernet was living at 1459 Robson Street.

The business was still in the same location in 1919, although the directory did not have a residential address for J.S. Bernet.

After 1919, Joseph did not appear in the Vancouver directories.

In 1925 and 1930, Joseph and Hattie, along with their son, Alan, were living in New York City.

It appears that Joseph died in New York on May 10, 1932.

Hattie and Alan were living in New York in 1940.

Alan enlisted in the United States military in 1942.

No further information is available for the family at this time.

Joseph and Hattie had the following child.

Alan J. Bernet was born in Canada (probably Vancouver) in 1914 or 1915.

In 1940, he was living with Hattie in New York, and was the manager of a housing company.
