Alexander, James William (1879-before 1909)

James William Alexander was a carpenter. He lived at 1893 Beach Avenue in 1905.

Early Life

James William Alexander was born in Gloucester, Ontario, on December 23, 1879. His parents were John Alexander and Elizabeth Little.

On February 6, 1905, in Vancouver, James married Sarah Ada McDonald. She was a widow, who appears to have been married in Ontario in 1880 to a man named Ronald McDonald. Sarah was born about 1860 (some sources say 1869) in London, Ontario. Her parents were Orrin Davis and Mary Jane Wilson.

In 1903 and 1904, Sarah was operating a boarding house at 581 Richards Street. The house was still there in 2013, the site of the Urban Hideaway Guest House: http://www.urban-hideaway.com/. [In 2019, the link to the guest house was not active.]

It appears that James died between 1905 and 1909. Sarah married Arthur Hughes Bailey in Victoria, British Columbia on July 28, 1909. Arthur was a widower, who was born in Warwickshire, England about 1860. His first marriage was on October 10, 1879, in Tredington, Warwickshire, to Elizabeth Ann Harris.

It appear that James and Sarah lived for a time in Marysville, Washington.
