John McKie (1827-1912)

I added a new page on John McKie, who was a retired school caretaker. He lived at 1881 Beach Avenue from 1901 to 1912.

His son, also called John McKie, was elected to the British Columbia legislature in 1924. While travelling by train to his first session of the legislature, an explosion in the railway car killed him, along with eight others, including the leader of the Doukhobors, Peter Verigin (sometimes spelled Verigen or Veregin).
